Build the smallest thing that genuinely solves the problem

Most tools answer real-world problems by piling on complexity. The lab's approach is the opposite. Here's the thinking behind it.

Five years studying Computer Science, a bachelor's then a master's, followed by four years of corporate job experience. Somewhere in there, a pattern became hard to ignore.

The same real-world problems keep coming back, and most tools answer them by piling on complexity instead of removing it.

One real problem at a time

DevXpert Labs exists as a response to that. The approach has three steps:

  1. Pick one problem. Not a category of problems, one specific thing that's hurting someone.
  2. Understand it properly. Where does the data already live? Who touches it? What have they already tried?
  3. Build the smallest thing that genuinely solves it. Then stop.

Why smaller wins

A smaller tool is easier to learn, cheaper to run, and less likely to break when WordPress, PHP or a plugin updates. It's also easier to give away, which is why several of the lab's builds end up as free plugins.

The useful experiments become plugins and tools. The rest become lessons. Either way, something ships.

Work with the lab

Have something worth testing?

A client project, a plugin idea, or a "could we actually build this?" Bring it to the bench.
